A Door To Last A Lifetime

A quality security door is extremely durable. These doors that serve to protect your home are made to last with very little maintenance, offering peace of mind for generations.

To get as much value out of your front security door as possible and ensure longevity, there are some steps you can take. From regular cleaning to inspecting for damages, here are 5 ways you can preserve your door to make it last a lifetime.

Importance Of Front Security Door Maintenance

A security screen door offers a range of benefits for you and your family. While additional security and protection from intruders is a large one, they also offer ease of airflow through the home, added privacy, preservation of your front door and the ability to keep out pests. There’s also, of course, the fact that they’re a stylish home addition that enhances curb appeal.

Taking time every now and then to care for your door will not only ensure it lasts longer, but will mean it can better protect your home for longer while continuing to look sleek and impress guests. Basic maintenance may also be a prerequisite for your warranty, which could become void if not cared for to some degree.

5 Ways To Preserve Your Front Security Door

1. Choose a quality door to begin with

It may seem obvious, but the first step to ensure your door lasts is to make sure it is made up of durable materials in the first place. Aluminium or stainless steel is an ideal choice for doors.

In general, quality doors are also made locally. Certified, Australian-made doors that adhere to Australian Standards and have passed quality testing will also ensure greater immunity.

2. Clean regularly

Residue left on the door can not only be unattractive to look at, but can also begin to affect functionality. For this reason, it’s recommended that you clean your screen once every three months. This may change depending on the location of your home, as coastal homes or those in high-traffic areas may collect more dirt and grime.

To clean the door, you should use a wet sponge to wipe away any build-up of dirt. If there is any stubborn dirt, you can use a brush with mild detergent. It’s important not to clean too hard as this could remove the door’s corrosion-resistant coating.

After washing, rinse with water to ensure no detergent is left on the door.

3. Lubrication of locks and hinges

Lubrication is important to ensure your door is operating smoothly, avoiding rust and corrosion. This should be done regularly after cleaning, whether any concerns have been identified or not, to ensure continued smooth operation. While applying the lubricant you should move locks through their various positions.

4. Regular inspection

Any damages that go unnoticed can lead to worsening and create greater concerns later down the track. You should check for signs of forced entry, dents, and check that the door operates smoothly.

If any issues are identified, these should be repaired as soon as possible to return the door to good condition and prevent worsening.

5. Weather protection

Taking appropriate measures to protect your door against the weather is a good idea if it is exposed to intense sunlight or heavy rain. Protective coating or finishes can help to prevent fading or corrosion and ensure it remains in good condition for longer.
